This week in 5A, both Tommy K. and Joey V. shared in their enthusiasm for changes in matter by leading their very own demonstrations!
Last week in Physical Science, our students learned about physical and chemical changes. To better understand the results of a chemical reaction, the fifth grade observed a demonstration, in which substances interacted with each other to produce a chemical change.
In the first part of the demo, students learned what happens when Alka Seltzer mixes with water. In the second part of the demo, students observed the reaction that occurs when calcium chloride is combined with baking soda. Check out the pictures below of the demonstration in action!
As a way to understand the differences between dilute, concentrated, and saturated solutions, the students observed a demonstration. In this demonstration, chocolate powder and milk were used to create each type of solution.
As part of the rewards system in my classroom, students have the option of reading aloud a picture book to their class. This week, Caroline D. read aloud, Purple, Green, and Yellow to 5B. What great fun 5B had listening to this story, making predictions and connections, and synthesizing!
