Earth Day Celebration!

This week in class, our fifth graders celebrated EARTH DAY! Oh what fun we had tying the importance of Earth Day into Science and Language Arts.

To kick off the festivities, our students first brainstormed ways they can protect the earth.

After their ideas were shared and discussed with the class, the students planted tomato plants! Interested in knowing why we chose to plant tomatoes instead of flowers? Well, we discussed how planting vegetable plants is a better choice because they bear fruit and it’s more of a lesson on how we use our Earth to live (a good reason to protect it!)  The pictures below show students working together to plant their tomato seeds.

As a way to wrap up Earth Day, our students chose topics relating to this world-wide holdiay and wrote descriptive, informative, or persuasive paragraphs.
